Ascendit Deus, a text appropriate for the ascension, is: God is gone up with a merry noise, and the Lord with the sound of the trumpet. He gave gifts to men. Alleluia.

This text has been set by a number of composers, but one does not need to know the text to get the feel of rising upwards written in imitation so well in this setting by Jacobus Clement non Papa, a Flemish composer of the middle Renaissance.

The sheet music is published by the TBQ Press - http://www.tbqpress.com/ Scroll down their listings to find the piece.

It is is also available as an unpublished brass sextet (link) available from me.

The mp3 performance is from my CD “Savannah River Brassworks,” available on my “recordings” page (link)
