This brass nonet arrangement of the first movement of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 is hard; there’s no two ways about it. But it’s doable — I’ve done it in rehearsal (just didn’t record it — my bad). Even after trying to create as much space in the playing time as I could, there are few breaks for the trumpets.

It’s scored for brass nonet - Eb Trumpet or Cornet, 2 Bb Trumpets, Flugelhorn, French Horn, 3 Trombones, and Tuba. If the ensemble has a high-note horn specialist, I can send a second French Horn part to substitute for the flugelhorn (that horn part has a few high B’s).

If there is a large brass choir with multiple players on the parts, it’s a whole lot easier, as some trading off can take place.

The first movement of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, is not recorded, so the mp3 is a FINALE MIDI audio extract (not a great sound, but you get the idea of what the piece sounds like).

The first movement for double quintet of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 sells for $25.00 for the hard copy,                                  $20.00 for the pdf’s.
