Faute d’Argent translates loosely to “Blame the silver,” or “Blame the money,” referring to Judas’s payment for his betrayal. I arranged it specifically it for our CD (see below) because I wanted to span the 500 years since Josquin composed it right at 500 years ago. The pure counterpoint and lack of attention to chordal harmony is something to which we are unaccustomed - and yet all the musical signs in the piece point forward.

It’s an interesting piece from a historical perspective, if for no other reason
