Go Not Far From Me, O God
Niccolo Zingarelli wrote 37 mainly comic operas in all in a prolific career. Between 1785 and 1803 he wrote mainly for La Scala of Milan. Nearly all are forgotten, however, and he is known to us nowadays as the composer of Go Not Far From Me, O God, an often-used church anthem.
This transcription for 2 Bb trumpets, French Horn, and Trombone is a great solo-and-ensemble contest piece for a younger group: easy parts, very accessible ranges in all parts, and showy changes in dynamics make this an exciting piece to play and listen to alike.
Note: In 1966 Concordia Publishing House published my transcription of this piece for two Bb Trumpets and 2 Trombones; that version is available from JW Pepper at the following link: https://www.jwpepper.com/Go-Not-Far-from-Me/4780474.item#/submit
This piece is also available scored for a brass quintet.
This quartet version of Go Not Far From Me, O God is available for $15.00 for hard copy, $10.00 for pdfs.
