Pine Needles is not for the faint-hearted. It is a very serious, very difficult work meant for graduate performance students with a bent towards the hyper-contemporary. I wrote this after becoming acquainted with the works of George Crumb and others of his ilk. I was working on my doctorate and in the flow of groundbreaking music.

There is mostly contemporary notation; there are a lot of contemporary effects, in both the cello and piano parts. But I think it’s a work worth pursuing for those who want a truly definitive work in their repertoire.

Pine Needles has been successfully performed - once. And there was no recording. So it can be done - and I need a recording.

I’m happy to send all 12 pages of the pdf’s for free to those who are committed to getting me a recording of a performance. Email me at rvolk1@comcast.net for a complete score.
