The Letter

 

Hard Rock for big band and vocalist at its best, this tune made popular first by the Box Tops and later by Joe Cocker takes on a whole new flavor. Tenor Sax, Trombone, and Organ solos (listen to Wycliffe Gordon’s remarkable solo on the mp3; I take the organ ride in a rare appearance as a performer); Julie Green is the vocalist.

If no organ, substitute a trumpet ride for the organ solo (or give it to the keyboard player if an electronic keyboard is being used for the piano part).

This one will have the crowd on their feet at the end.

I have permission to release the music on my CDs, but if you want to actually perform it you will have to get performance permission from the Harry Fox Agency (an inexpensive formality involving filling out a form).
